Less is more, when it comes to the latest item due to go on display at the National Football Museum. Blackburn Rovers’ David Dunn has loaned a very small but precious engraved stud to our collection.

The stud is intricately engraved with all 38 of the English national team’s World Cup goalscorers, plus the famous three lions emblem. The task was undertaken by Birmingham engraver Graham Short, and took six painstaking months to complete.

Dunn purchased the unique item at auction last year. He said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to be involved with the National Football Museum, and I’m particularly pleased to be able to loan an item with such real significance. The engraving on the stud is so intricate, and I'm really happy that it will be on display in the new museum.

"I bought it because it's a great piece of art which is a complete one of a kind. The craftsmanship is amazing and the story it tells makes it an exciting piece of football memorabilia."

Dunn has made over 300 appearances for Blackburn, his hometown club, in addition to a 4 year spell at Birmingham City.

  • Just a quick word to Dave Winscott. I am Part of Graham Short's management team. If you get in touch I may be able to set something up for you and the school involving Graham.

  • I'm a teacher at one of the many schools that are currently working on a project about Graham Short the micro-artist who produced the football stud. This guy is quite amazing. He works between heartbeats and has also engraved along the sharp edge of a razor blade. My pupils will definitely be visiting the FA museum.
