Stuart Roy Clarke’s Homes of Football: Darwen End, 1991

The proud Chairman stood there in the Blackburn Rovers oak-panelled boardroom telling the story of how football was born out of a spring in a hill near Darwen, which travelled into Blackburn, before going on to populate all parts of the World. I think he really believed this story. He and others who ran football clubs back in the early 1990s had made a few bob either running or owning some industry or other, usually within sight of the club they’d supported in their youth.
