National Curriculum Resource Material at the National Football Museum

Key Stage 2

Resource 1: Literacy: This resource focuses on on how what people say can have an affect on the way we perceive events. It uses materials available at the Museum, including documents, letters, newspapers and football programmes to encourage pupils to investigate how words are associated with reason, persuasion, explanation and description, encouraging them to distinguish between fact or opinion

Resource 2: English & Design: This resource requires children to design a football shirt based on information collected at the Museum. It encourages them to successfully gather information, write a piece of persuasive text and make comparisons between objects from different eras.

Resource 3: History: This resource encourages the understanding and use of timelines to chart historical events. It requires pupils to develop a timeline based on information and objects in the Museum.

Resource 4: History: This resource encourages pupils to learn how source material can be used to learn about and interpret the past. It requires pupils to investigate the history of football by analysing artefacts and other sources at the Museum.

Key Stage 3 and 4

Resource 5: Science: Key Stage 3: This resource allows pupils to explore the properties of materials used to produce football equipment from different eras. It asks pupils to research, plan and carry out an investigation into these materials.

Resource 6: Physical Education: Key Stage 3: This resource encourages knowledge and understanding of fitness and health through the exploration of the issues surrounding exercise, hygiene and participation in football.

Resource 7: Inclusion & Citizenship: Key Stage 3-4: This resource addresses issues of rules, rights and responsibilities, and assesses the contribution of football clubs to their communities.

Resource 8: Inclusion and Citizenship: Key Stage 3-4: This resource encourages students to consider the role of ethnic minorities, women and people with disabilities in football and asks, 'How inclusive is the game of football'?

Resource 9: Maths: Key Stage 3-4: This resource is based around the use of League Tables and will encourage pupils to develop their own problem solving strategies in order to complete the tasks and solve the mathematical problems involved.

Resource 10: Religious Education: Key Stage 4: Using the discrimination facing ethnic minority and female footballers, this resource encourages pupils' understanding and awareness of the different types of prejudice and discrimination.

Resource 11: Leisure and Tourism GCSE Double Award: Key Stage 4: This is a complete double unit that covers Marketing and Customer Service modules, and includes a specialist talk with a Museum Educator.
