Hughes was a fearless, lion-hearted striker in the mould of Nat Lofthouse, his phenomenal work rate and fierce striking of the ball making him a favourite with the fans. He played for other teams, including a great spell at Chelsea, but he is best remembered as a Manchester United player through two hugely successful periods at the club in the 1980s and 90s. Sir Alex Ferguson names him as his greatest big game player. He scored 119 goals for United, many of them were spectacular. He also played with great pride and passion for Wales, whom he subsequently managed.
