Latest News - Hall of Fame 2008

The National Football Museum Hall of Fame 2008 awards dinner will take place on Thursday 18th September at the Millennium Mayfair Hotel in London. This is the first time that the event will go to the capital city and is expected to be the biggest and best to date.

As an indication of the growing awareness of the importance of the Hall of Fame, the National Football Museum has been invited to stage an additional Hall of Fame awards dinner this year in Liverpool at ACC Liverpool on Wednesday 8th October as part of the European Capital of Culture celebrations. The Selection Panel have deliberated to select the greatest players and managers of all time in the English game based on performance in Europe. Awards will be presented at a never to be repeated exciting evening with the official support of UEFA.

With a guest list which reads like a who’s who of football legends, the two National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame events are expected to be hugely popular - reinforcing its reputation as one of the most prestigious and eagerly anticipated events in the English football calendar. Tickets will go on sale soon and are expected to go very quickly. Watch this space...

The events are black-tie.

The Inductees for 2008

The Selection Panel has completed its voting and the results will be publicised later in the year, but here are some clues...

The Hall of Fame will this year celebrate:
- Two Manchester United former team mates
- A gifted Arsenal attacker
- Two members of the England 1966 squad
- A Derby County legend
- An England goalkeeper
- An Arsenal manager

European Hall of Fame awards will go to:
- Three of the most famous footballing Scots
- A great Yorkshireman
- A proud Welshman and a much loved Irishman
- Four of the Northeast's greatest footballing sons

Note. Inductees into the Hall of Fame must have ended their career or be at least 30 years of age and have played / managed in England for 5 years or more.

The Museum is grateful for the advice it is receiving from football historian and author, Robert Galvin, in developing profiles for the new inductees that will appear soon on the website.
