The National Football Museum Reveals That Sir Alex Ferguson Rates Arsene Wenger One of the All Time Managerial Greats
Despite all the rhetoric and public hostility The National Football Museum can reveal today that Sir Alex Ferguson stands alone in rating Arsenal Football Club Supremo, Arsene Wenger, as one of the top five all time great football managers in the English game.
Despite heated words and much publicised mind games there would appear to be a grudging respect, for his French counterpart, from perhaps the greatest British Manager of all time.
Mark Bushell, Museum Curator explained:
“Last year the Museum held its inaugural Hall of Fame awards where we honoured those players and managers who have made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the English game in its first 150 years. The gala dinner was a huge success and those present to receive their awards included Johnny Haynes, Nat Lofthouse, Sir Tom Finney, John Charles, Sir Bobby Charlton, Dave Mackay, Sir Alex Ferguson, Denis Law, Kenny Dalglish, and Bryan Robson.”
But it was whilst Bushell was going through last years voting slips, in the build up to this years awards that will take place on November 30 th , that Bushell was staggered to find that Ferguson stood alone in his admiration for Wenger.
“Last year we put together a superb panel of ex players and managers to pick our inaugural inductees and I was amazed to see that only Sir Alex had voted for Wenger. Panellists included Trevor Brooking, Brian Clough, Jimmy Hill, Terry Venables, Sir Bobby Robson and many more. Somehow in the excitement of last year's event we seem to have missed this fact.”
Clearly Ferguson appreciates the job that Wenger has done at Arsenal Football Club and recognises his dedication to his profession.
And Bushell is keen to see if Wenger has gone up in the estimation of this year's panellist's:
“Added to last years panel are the inaugural inductees so it will be interesting to see if the likes of Banks, Best, Gascoigne and Greaves recognise the Arsenal boss in the same way that, up until now, only Sir Alex has.”
