On Monday 11th October The National Football Museum took two trophies from the Museum's collections in to the Barclays Fishergate Branch in Preston. The trophies on display to members of the public and Barclays customers were the Barclays Manager of the Year and the Young Eagle Trophy, which recognises the achievements of young players in football.
These trophies were kindly loaned by Barclays to the museum in 2003, realising the importance of the public to have access to them and the importance of them being part of the Museum's collections in documenting the story of the game.
Also in the branch on this day was the Barclays Premiership Trophy.
Rachel Herbinson from Barclays said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for members of the public to not only get their hands on the ultimate prize in English domestic football, the all new Barclays Premiership Trophy, but also to learn of Barclays involvement in the heritage of football.”
In January 2004 Barclays made a donation, through the Barclays Community Programme, to The National Football Museum which enabled schools from deprived areas in Preston to receive free educational resources and experiences at the Museum. Barclays and The National Football Museum have subsequently been granted an award from Arts & Business, through their New Partners programme, which funded the display of the trophies outside of the Museum.
Richard Cuthbert from the National Football Museum added: “The Barclays Community programme was a tremendous success with hundreds of children, who might not usually get the chance to visit the Museum, benefiting from the kind donation. By giving the general public an opportunity to view the array of Barclays Football trophies at the branch it reaffirmed Barclay's commitment to grassroots community projects and The National Football Museum was delighted to support them every step of the way.”
Janet Dunnett from Arts & Business was delighted to see the cooperation between Barclays and the National Football Museum: “Our remit is to promote successful partnerships between arts organisations and companies and this is a wonderful example of a project that satisfied our goals whilst bringing happiness to so many members of the public.”
