England may have faltered with yet another dismal penalty failure during the European Championships, but Tarleton High School scored a major victory in their successful attempt to create a new penalty shoot out world record at The National Football Museum.
Six pupils from the high school scored one hundred penalties in ten minutes to create a new world record and bring some pride back to English football.
Mark Bushell from The National Football Museum, said:
‘The Guinness Book of Records didn't list a record for the number of penalties scored in any amount of time. So the six hotshots from Tarleton have created history at the Museum today.'
Steven Marsh, head of Geography, at Tarleton high school in Preston said:
‘One successful penalty every six seconds is some going, but the pupils were determined to prove to the world that England really can succeed in penalties'.
In order to log the world record attempt the pupils had to provide two independent adjudicators and the school felt it fitting that if they were going to create history then what better place than The National Football Museum.
Museum representatives ensured that nothing underhand hindered the attempt.
‘There was no over watered penalty
spot and no complaints about turf giving way under foot said Bushell. I would
like to congratulate Tarleton High School on their new world record. They
have now put a marker down for the rest of the world to beat.'
