National
Football Museum objects will be enjoyed by thousands of football fans in Portugal
The National Football Museum
has provided several wonderful objects from its collections to form the centrepiece
of a football exhibition within the Euro 2004 Fans' Park in
Lisbon.
Museum staff left for Portugal this morning with amongst other items; Terry
Venables' Spitting Image puppet; a Dutch shirt worn by Rene Van de
Kerkhof against England in 1982; a Spanish International shirt worn by Francisco
Gento against France in 1961 and a ball signed by the entire 1988 West German
European Championship team.
The National Football Museum objects will be seen by hundreds of thousands of
football fans for the duration of the tournament.
Mark Bushell from the Museum said:
"To be asked by the organisers
of the European Championships to contribute to the event in Portugal is further
testament to our growing international reputation. It is also a wonderful
opportunity to publicise the Museum, not just to football fans in this country
but throughout Europe and let them enjoy a selection of the material found
within the Museum - simply the world's finest collections of football memorabilia."
