The
National Football Museum To Reunite Everton And Liverpool Legends With Trophies
From Their Glorious Past
Some of Merseyside's greatest
ever footballers will be reunited at The National Football Museum, in Preston,
on the Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th August (1pm -2pm).
And to greet the former stars of Liverpool and Everton will be an array of glittering
trophies that the legends won in the mid 1980s when both clubs dominated English
and European football. For many of the players it will be the first time that
they have had the opportunity to hold the trophies aloft since the cups were
won over 20 years ago.
Mark Bushell, from the Museum said: "We are very fortunate that in our collections
we have the European Cup Winners' Cup, the FA Cup and the Canon League Division
One trophy, all of which spent a considerable amount of time on Merseyside in
the 1980s. Everton and Liverpool were very much the teams to beat both domestically
and internationally."
The Museum will welcome Liverpool giants Bruce Grobbelaar, Phil Neal and David
Johnson into the Museum on Wednesday 24th August at 1.00pm. Grobbelaar, who's
wobbly knee antics helped to secure Liverpool the European Cup, after a penalty
shoot out against AS Roma in 1984, is flying in from South Africa.
Everton legends Kevin Ratcliffe, Graham Sharp, Peter Reid and John Bailey together
with Managerial supremo, Howard Kendall will be introduced once again to the
FA Cup, which they won in 1984, and the Cannon League Division 1 Trophy and
European Cup Winners' Cup that they secured in 1985, at 1.00pm on Thursday 25th
August.
Bushell continued: "This is a tremendous opportunity for members of the public
to see football history being re-created. This will be the first time that the
Liverpool players will have been reunited with the Canon League trophy and the
FA Cup since they achieved a memorable Double under Kenny Dalglish in his first
season in charge of the club in1986. And to see the Everton boss and captain
lift their trophies once again will be a dream come true for all Evertonians."
Entry to the Museum for the event is FREE of charge.
After the photo-opportunities supporters will get the chance to speak to the
legends through an organised autograph session.
