Women's
Euro 2005 Match Officials Visit The Museum
First there were 16
but now, at the semi-final stage, were down to 8! The remaining 8 match officials,
from the Women's Euro 2005 tournament, visited the Museum on Monday 13th June
to view for themselves the world's greatest football collections. They were also
keen to see the recently created ''Girls Allowed' Euro 2005 Women's exhibition'
which details the development of the women's game throughout Europe.
All the officials for the competition were from countries that were not
represented in the tournament apart from Wendy Toms, from England, who is to
be the fourth official at both semi-finals. The party included Kari Seitz, from
the United States, who will officiate at the semi-final to be played at Warrington
on Thursday 16th June and Dagmar Damkova, from the Czech Republic, who will
referee the Deepdale semi-final on Wednesday 15th June. The Assistant referees
in the party are from Spain, Poland, Croatia and Bulgaria.
Mark Bushell from the Museum said: 'They were amazed by the Museum's collections
and the scale of the exhibitions. Speaking to a member of the FA, who accompanied
the officials around the Museum, I got the feeling that they very much appreciated
the fact that we tell the story of the women's game as well as that of the men's
within our Museum. This exhibition is fully inclusive and very much for everyone.'
