One Lucky Fan Given Chance To Induct Alan Shearer Into The National Football Museum ‘ Hall Of Fame'

The National Football Museum honoured one of the all time greats of English football, On Sunday 15th May, when the ‘Toon' legend, Alan Shearer was inducted into The National Football Museum Hall of Fame.

The presentation was made at 2.15pm prior to Newcastle United's final game of the season against Chelsea .

Richard Cuthbert from the Museum said:

“We believed that a football ‘Hall of Fame' was long overdue. Many of English footballs great characters never had their outstanding contributions to the game recognised during their lifetime. Unfortunately Alan was unavailable to attend our event in November but we promised him that we would present his award at an appropriate place.”

And what better place for Alan to receive the honour than in front of 57,000 fans at St James' Park.

And Cuthbert paid tribute to Alan's incredible achievements:

“What a record Alan has. At the time of his selection for The National Football Museum Hall of Fame , in November 2004, he had scored a staggering 268 League goals in 479 appearances. Obviously this has increased as he nears the club record of Jackie Milburn. He has also excelled himself on the international stage scoring 30 goals for England in 63 games.'

The award recognises not only Shearers ability but his dedication and professionalism.

With thanks to Metro FM in the NorthEast The National Football Museum found an avid Newcastle FC fan to present the award to Alan on the day. Danny Mitchell secured his place in football history by officially handing over the coveted Hall of Fame award to Shearer pitchside at St James Park. All at The National Football Museum hope Danny had a fabulous day!
