Exciting Film Project Launched at the National Football Museum

The National Football Museum is working on an innovative and exciting project in partnership with Lancashire County Council Youth and Community Service in Preston.

The project involves a group of young Asian women from the Deepdale area of Preston exploring issues around their heritage and, the impact of football on their lives and on their communities.

As part of the project the group are working with a professional film maker to create an interactive film and DVD exploring these issues which will premiere at the National Football Museum in Autumn 2006. The film will then be on public display at the Museum.

The project also aims to be educational, encouraging those involved to develop interpersonal and practical skills. By taking part in the project the young women will gain an AQA accreditation as part of Lancashire County Council's Youth and Community Service accreditation scheme. They will also have an opportunity to experience a number of different activities including, a weekend outdoor activity residential and trip to the Football Association Headquarters in London.

The Museum hopes that the project will help us to engage with Asian communities in Preston and particularly young people, by highlighting their stories, attitudes and opinions about football.

This exciting project has been made possible by funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund Young Roots scheme, which aims to enable young people to explore their heritage.

If you would like any further information about getting involved in the project, please contact Belinda Scarlett, Access Officer, on 01772 908425.
