The National Football Museum calls on PNE fans to sign giant flag to be presented to Sir Tom Finney in commemoration of 60 years since his league debut.
2006 is the 60th anniversary of Sir Tom Finney's Preston North End league debut. As a result The National Football Museum is delighted to announce details of a unique way to commemorate this special occasion and is calling on all football fans to get involved.
A huge 15ft x 10ft flag has been specially commissioned from Supporterflags.co.uk adorned with a picture of Sir Tom and a message of ‘thanks for the memories'. The Museum is encouraging people to visit the museum, sign the tribute to Sir Tom and in doing so play their part in acknowledging his wonderful career for PNE and England .
Mark Bushell from the Museum said: “Sir Tom is a genuine legend. He's given the people of this city so many happy memories over the years. With 2006 being the 60 th anniversary of Tom's PNE debut, what better time for people to acknowledge what a tremendous ambassador for Preston and football in general this great man has been”
After the flag has been signed by fans it will be presented to Sir Tom before the first game of the 2006/2007 season and then be added to the museum's collections as a lasting tribute to the legend .
Bushell continued: “We're asking ALL PNE and football fans in general to come down to the museum and sign the flag. It's just a fantastic way to show Sir Tom has highly regarded he is as a person and to thank him for the special memories he's created over the years.”
