National Football Museum supports Supporters' Club Tournament

In its second year the National Football Museum sponsored football supporters' club trophy held at Vernons Sports and Social Club on Sunday 22 June was won by Barnsley FC Supporter's Club in a hard fought final against the Huddersfield Town FC supporters' side. The other clubs competing comprised the supporters' teams of Tranmere Rovers (winners of the Plate Competition), Burnley, Port Vale, Oldham Athletic, Crewe Alexandra and Preston North End. The event is organised by Preston North End supporters' club who won the trophy last year.

The event organiser, Preston North End fan, Steve Cowell said: “The tournament gets better each year and is now firmly established within the fans football  league the IFA. The Museum has worked closely with us in our aim to show that the game really belongs to us the fans and for that we can't thank them enough."

National Football Museum General Manager, David Pearson said: “The National Football Museum is proud to support this tournament. The Museum is for all football fans and this is a great way of bringing them together.”

Here is a few comments from the participating teams:

Other sides were also quick to add their praises for the event: “The tournament set-up was superb, the pitches were in excellent condition and the games were played in the right spirit” (Port Vale), "Thanks to PNE and to the organisers for the tournament on Sunday. I know I speak for our lot in that it was a good day out against some decent teams.” (Oldham Athletic), “It was superbly organised-absolutely brilliant. We all managed to have a fantastic day despite loosing all but one of our games. Can't wait to enter next year and hopefully we will bring a full team this time.”(Burnley)
Huddersfield were pleased with their day as runners up, placing the story on the official Huddersfield Town website . “Thanks to Steve and all those involved in organising yesterdays tournament. I know how much effort it has took and for us, it was well worth it.” (Crewe Alexandra) and finally “Just a quick thanks to Steve and everyone else at Preston who put on yesterdays superb tournament. Top effort, very well organised. Had a really enjoyable day. Great pitches, even better bacon butties. Good to meet up with a few familiar faces too, and see/play some teams we aren't too familiar with (Burnley/Barnsley).” (Tranmere Rovers)

The trophy and some photographs from the tournament will soon go on display in the National Football Museum in Preston.
