The Fans Vote Emlyn Hughes into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame 2008

In an on-line poll run on the National Football Museum website between Friday 20 June and Wednesday 25 June and promoted by Sky Sports News and MBN Promotions, fans voted for Liverpool legend Emlyn Hughes to join the National Football Museum Hall of Fame. This is a fitting tribute to the ever popular and much missed captain of England and Liverpool.

Hughes joins other great Liverpool players already in the Hall of Fame: John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen, Roger Hunt, Kevin Keegan, Ian Rush and Graeme Souness.

Hughes' award will be presented, along with 6 others, at the ceremony in London on 18 September. Tickets can be obtained by contacting the Museum or MBN Promotions.

Hughes had stiff competition in the public vote from four other great players, who will surely enter the Hall of Fame themselves in the near future: Ossie Ardiles, Sir Trevor Brooking, Ray Clemence and Teddy Sheringham.

The Hall of Fame is now in its seventh year and players and managers already inducted include legends such as George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Stanley Matthews and Bill Shankly. Each year the names are chosen by a panel including Sir Alex Ferguson, Jimmy Greaves, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Mark Lawrenson and Gordon Taylor.

A full list of this years Hall of Fame inductees for 2008 will be announced shortly .

The Hall of Fame is generously supported by the North West Regional Development Agency, the Professional Footballers Association and the New Football Pools. The Special Patron of the Hall of Fame is Mr David Gold, Chairman of Birmingham City FC.

Robert Galvin has written us a profile on Emlyn Hughes.

Note. Inductees into the Hall of Fame must have ended their career or be at least 30 years of age and have played / managed in England for 5 years or more.
