National Football Museum hosts South African Curator
The National Football Museum, Preston is delighted to be a host for one of the important South African trainee curator placements funded by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). This is part of a scheme announced by Secretary of State, Rt.Hon. Tessa Jowell MP in February 2005 in collaboration with the South African Department of Arts & Culture and their minister, Dr Pallo Jordan.
Alpheus Matlou, arrived in January 2007 and will continue working with the Museum until the end of March. Mr Matlou is a curator at the National Cultural History Museum in Pretoria. He is assisting the National Football Museum in a number of programmes for visitors and is helping develop plans for an exhibition in South Africa for the World Cup in 2010.
Alpheus said “I am enjoying very much my time working at the National Football Museum. The staff here have been so welcoming. I am learning so much. I hope I can help the National Football Museum find partners in South Africa for a really exciting exhibition there in 2010.”
