1966 World Cup Final ball

National Football Museum helps welcome Sepp Blatter to meet with Chancellor Gordon Brown.

The National Football Museum had the honour of being invited by HM Treasury to assist with welcoming FIFA President Sepp Blatter to his meeting with Chancellor Gordon Brown and Sports Minister Richard Caborn at No.11 Downing Street on 28 February. The Museum brought the 1930 World Cup final ball and the 1966 World Cup final ball for the Chancellor and his guests to see and handle as talking points prior to their important meeting.

Chancellor Gordon Brown said: “I am delighted that we were able to show these wonderful treasures to FIFA President Blatter during his visit. They acted as a reminder of the important role that England has in preserving the history of football and as the originator of the game.”

National Football Museum Director, Kevin Moore said: “Mr Blatter has been a supporter of the Museum from the outset and so we were very pleased to have the opportunity to welcome him in this way.”
