Lancashire County Council lend support for exhibition opening
Leader of Lancashire County Council, Hazel Harding and Chairman Alan Whittaker turned out to support the launch of the new exhibition, Local Hero: Football Legend, Sir Tom Finney and were both delighted to meet Sir Tom.
Chairman Alan Whittaker said:
“Very few of our football heroes warrant the title of legend. In Sir Tom’s case, this is perfectly appropriate. This exhibition recognises his contribution not just to football or Preston, but to sport and the wider community. Wherever I go across the country, his name is known and respected. He is a fine ambassador for Lancashire and a role model that young and old can aspire to.” Leader Hazel Harding commented: “Sir Tom has been a magnificent inspiration for many generations, not just in Preston, but across the whole of Lancashire. It is an honour to support an exhibition of this kind for a gifted sportsman and gentleman. This is a very impressive exhibition, which also reveals some interesting new things.”
David Pearson, Museum Manager said: “We are extremely grateful to Lancashire County Council for their generous support and to the Leader and the Chairman for taking the time to visit the exhibition launch. The response to our call for support for the Sir Tom Finney exhibition has been overwhelming and is an indication of the affection everyone has for him.”
The exhibition, which opened on 28 March 2009 continues until 27 September.
