Celebrate National Poetry Day at the National Football Museum

Visit the National Football Museum's new exhibition, Poetry in Motion, on National Poetry Day and you could win a copy of the poetry anthology, Saved edited by Ann Langton and published by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA). National Poetry Day 2007 takes place on Thursday 4 October and aims to engage people young and old in reading, writing and listening to poetry.

The National Football Museum's exhibition features an inspiring selection of football poetry by poets such as Ian McMillan, Roger McGough, and John Hegley. Also on display are poems featured in the poetry anthology, Saved. The exhibition has been created with the Museum's Poet in Residence, Paul Cookson whose light-hearted approach to poetry makes the exhibition an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Visitors can win a copy of Saved when they take part in free poetry activities at the Museum on Thursday 4 October.

For further details about the exhibition see our What's On web page.

The National Football Museum 's Poet in Residence, Paul Cookson and Bryan Gray, Chairman of the NWDA can be available for interview on Thursday 4 October.

Chairman of the NWDA, Bryan Gray said, “I am delighted that poetry from the NWDA's anthology Saved has been included in the exhibition. This inspiring collection of poetry illustrates the fascinating history of football, which helps to play an important part in the cultural life of the Northwest, as well as making a valuable contribution to the regional economy. The National Football Museum continues to raise the profile of our sporting region to a national audience and I hope that people will visit this exhibition and discover yet again that football is more than just a game.”
