Partnership sets healthy goals for Preston
A partnership to bring health and well being to the forefront of the community is set to kick off with the healthy stadium programme.
NHS Central Lancashire met with National Football Museum managers to discuss how a healthy focus can encourage the community to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
The programme is as a result of NHS Central Lancashire's ongoing commitment to tackling health inequalities and raising the profile and importance of health and wellbeing to the residents of central Lancashire .
With the NHS's state-of-the-art Minerva Health Centre set to open early 2009, the new programme aims to work in partnership with the facilities at the centre, National Football Museum and PNE to encourage people to be healthy.
PNE's stadium will provide a healthy focus on match days via the delivery of community exercise programmes.
A large audience is attracted into the museum which has a rolling programme of family fun days, work with libraries and projects with schools, they are also
keen to incorporate health promoting messages.
Gulab Singh, head of public health planning said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the NHS to develop another partnership arrangement with a high profile public venue to support the delivery of health and wellbeing initiatives. “
Gulab went on to say: “The National Football Museum, Preston North End and NHS Central Lancashire will work in collaboration to develop health based initiatives, this exciting opportunity will ensure that people visiting the football stadium are able to benefit from accessing other services that compliment health and wellbeing. ”
With 100,000's of visitors per year visiting the National Football Museum and football stadium the programme is set to target all sectors of the community and eventually make Preston a tourist destination.
National Football Museum General Manager, David Pearson, said: "The Museum is delighted that the NHS Minerva Health Centre will soon be opening on the Deepdale site. This is a very exciting opportunity to work in partnership for the benefit of the local community."
