PNE 50s stars

PNE stars signing

Thompson and Finney

Hundreds queue to meet stars of yesteryear

Hundreds of fans and autograph hunters queued patiently to meet stars from Preston North Ends glory years at the museum recently. The ex players led by Sir Tom Finney signed autographs and posed for photographs with fans for nearly three hours.

Ken Waterhouse, Fred Else, Ray Evans, Tommy Thompson, Les Dagger, Derek Mayers, Peter Higham, Eric Jones and of course Sir Tom all played for PNE during the 1950s. They were brought together by Ian Rigby from the PNE Former Players Association, who helped organise the event.

Ian who started the Association ten years ago said ‘It's great for the ex players that so many of the fans remember them and also bring their children and grandchildren along. They all enjoyed the day, though after nearly three hours of signing autographs their hands were beginning to ache just a bit'!

David Pearson, General Manager commented ‘It's fantastic that they all gave up their time to come to the museum and meet the fans. This kind of event shows that the history of the game and the great players of the past are just as important to our visitors as the current game and its players. After the success of this event, we are planning further session with Preston North End and other clubs'.

The next Preston North End signing session is being held on Friday 11 April. Look out for further events later in the year.
