Unique history of 'beautiful game' launched

The National Football Museum is excited to announce a brand new partnership with the Bridgeman Art Library, the renowned fine art image library.  For the first time over 300 of the museum’s finest images will be accessible online.

Available images are mainly from the FIFA Museum Collection and include historic football paintings, ceramics, football games, shirts, boots and balls. The set of images provide a unique insight into the development of football, mainly in Europe and include rare World Cup posters from the 1930s, ‘Boys Own’ advertisements and postcards from the 1890s, reflecting early attitudes towards women footballers.

Collections Officer, Wiebke Cullen commented ‘We are very excited about this partnership with Bridgeman who are the world's leading on-line source for fine art, history and culture images. It’s an important step for the National Football Museum in being able to bring these images to a much wider audience than we’ve previously been able to’.

Harriet Bridgeman, Founder of the Bridgeman Art Library said ‘We’re thrilled to represent and license images from this specialist museum. We anticipate they’ll be used for a wide variety of purposes as football has such an enormous cultural reach’.
