Leading University Academics support the National Football Museum

The National Football Museum is delighted that a significant number of leading university academics from around the world, including over a dozen professors, have agreed to become Academic Supporters of the National Football Museum.

The Museum has launched an Academic Supporters scheme, to highlight the key role that academics from a wide range of disciplines have played in the development of the Museum, and also to reflect the close links the Museum has developed with both individual academics and universities around the world.

Kevin Moore, Museum Director, said: “Research is at the heart of what any national museum does and the National Football Museum is no exception. The National Football Museum places a great deal of importance on contributing to academic research. We have a research partnership with the University of Central Lancashire, the International Football Institute (IFI), but the Museum has also developed partnerships for specific projects with academics at other universities in the UK and worldwide. The Museum greatly values its links with academics who have engaged with us, through collaborative research projects, conferences and events, writing reviews of the Museum and its work, contributing to exhibitions and using our research facilities.”

The Academic Supporters have agreed to the following statement “I, as a university academic, greatly value the work the National Football Museum does to promote research into football, past and present, the facilities it provides for researchers, and also the wider work it does in terms of public history, education and social inclusion.  I am therefore pleased to become an Academic Supporter of the National Football Museum.”

A full list of academics who have to date (January 2009) agreed to become Academic Supporters of the Museum is as follows:
