Flying the Flag

The Olympic spirit will be coming to the National Football Museum this Sunday (24th August) as it takes part in Preston’s celebrations to raise a flag marking the handover of the Olympics from Beijing to London.

Visitors are encouraged to pop into the museum to see a display of rare Olympic football objects.  They may well also bump into an authentically dressed ‘announcer’ from the 1908 Olympics!
A full programme of entertainment will be taking place at Moor Park just across the road from the museum and visitors to the park can also meet members of the museum team there and handle historic football objects.

The flag raising will take part at 4pm and other events taking place on the day include Preston Streetwise soccer tournaments and final, Preston North End football skills sessions, dance workshops and a full programme of music and live entertainment.  There will also be a guest appearance by Olympian Tessa Sanderson CBE.

Preston is one of a few specially chosen venues to mark the occasion of the handover by the raising of the Olympic flag.
Museum manager David Pearson commented ‘It’s great that Preston has been chosen to fly one of the flags marking this historic occasion.  The National Football Museum is proud to be involved.  We encourage people to pop into the museum on their way to the park to see our Olympic display'.

On Monday 25 August there will also be a free Olympic talk and tour.
