Visit of Mr Harry Cohen, Labour MP for Leyton and Wanstead to the National Football Museum
Mr Harry Cohen, Labour MP for Leyton and Wanstead visited the National Football Museum on Wednesday 1 August 2007. Mr Cohen, a keen Leyton Orient fan and his grandson, an Everton fan, especially enjoyed finding objects from their clubs, including a badge on the Football League Division 3 (South) shield commemorating Leyton Orient's win in 1955/56.
A highlight of the visit was when Mr Cohen achieved the highest scoring shot on the penalty shoot-out game ”Goalstriker” in a friendly competition, representing Leyton Orient against Everton (his grandson).
The photograph shows Mr Cohen and his grandson with the Pelé statue currently on display in the Beautiful Game exhibition at the Museum.
Quote from Harry Cohen MP:
“I had a hugely enjoyable and terrific afternoon out with my grandson at the National Football Museum. This museum shows that sport, in this case football, can transcend racial and social boundaries to bring about a cohesive community through its work with boys, girls and young Muslims. This multi cultural approach was key in London securing the 2012 Olympics. Bobby Charlton said ‘I can't think of a better Museum anywhere in the world' and I agree. It is a tremendous experience for children and adults alike. I hope that there will be few more trophies on display from my team, Leyton Orient, in due course!”
