NATIONAL FOOTBALL MUSEUM TAKES ENGLAND TO UEFA EURO 2008
England's loss of pride in failing to qualify for football's UEFA European Championships 2008 due to start in Switzerland and Austria on 7 June, will be restored (in part) by the starring role taken by the country's National Football Museum at a prestigious football exhibition now open in Vienna for the tournament. The exhibition, organised by the Technical Museum in Vienna, is entitled ‘herz:rasen – the Football Exhibition' and will run until 6th July 2008 .
The National Football Museum has loaned more than 70 iconic items for the exhibition from its world renowned collection, including Sir Geoff Hurst's hat-trick ball from the 1966 World Cup Final triumph, a neck-brace worn by Manchester City goalkeeper Bert Trautmann after his famous injury in the 1956 FA Cup Final and an original Wallace and Gromit ‘Soccamatic' model.
The main focus of the exhibition is European football over the past 30 years. In an area of 2,000 sq.m the exhibition explores the lives of players, fans and all-time football heroes and revives several of the most unforgettable footballing moments. And in addition it invites everyone to join in. At various test stations visitors can compare their physical ability and skill with other footballers, which makes the whole exhibition a very interactive, multi-media based experience for everyone.
Kevin Moore, National Football Museum Director said: “The Museum has held or contributed to exhibitions at every FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship. Our collection and expertise is recognised worldwide. We are very proud to be supporting this exhibition in Vienna as part of the UEFA Euro 2008 programme.”
Walter Szevera, the exhibition's project manager, said: “We are delighted to work with the National Football Museum and to include so many iconic objects from their collections, such as the ball from one of the most famous finals in World Cup history, the 1966 final between England and Germany .”
To celebrate the Euros, visitors to the National Football Museum that take part in our Goalstriker! penalty interactive from Tuesday 10th June until the end of the tournament will have the chance to be entered into a prize draw.
