Here are just a few examples of some of the fascinating entries collected so far:
One outstanding memory is the first England game I saw. A wartime game v Scotland at Maine Road Manchester October 1943. That game has gone down in history as one of the most complete exhibitions of football ever seen. The result England 8 Scotland 0. Scorers Lawton 4, Carter, Hagan and Mathews. A never to be forgotten experience for a 14 year old! (John Fennell)
My memory is hitch hiking to London to watch PNE vs Millwall Dec 66 with my brother. It was snowing, I was 16 he was 15. The worse thing we got beat. Arrived home Saturday evening to get told off by my mum. But it was worth it. (Christine Murphy)
1970 England 2 West Germany 3 “Devastated”!!
As a student (and Liverpool fan) I was travelling through the Europe in the summer holidays just after the Heysel disaster. Our plan was to visit Italy but when the train passed through Italy 's border and Italian customs guards came to check passports they refused to let us off the train with our passports registered in Italy . The said it was not safe for us in their country. It was years before I eventually went to Italy ! (Inter-railer)
