Playing for a Draw Calendar

5 July 2018 - 2 September 2018

Chart the history and creativity of football comics from across the world this summer with Playing for a Draw, in association with the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.

The exhibition highlights the diversity of football art from illustration, comics and caricatures through to memorabilia and collectables. Curated by renowned British cartoonist Steve McGarry, ‘Playing for a Draw’ showcases a striking range of football strips and drawings, from 19th-century illustrations through to childhood classics such as Roy of the Rovers, as well as the pioneering artists of the present day.

In addition to this historical artwork, new drawings by Steve McGarry, commissioned specifically for the exhibition, will also go on display, including large-scale illustrations of Manchester City hero Sergio Aguero and Dutch icon Lieke Martens.

Join us from Thursday 5 July and relive those days spent thumbing through copies of Tiger, discovering new stories about the art form along the way.

You can also learn how to draw Ronaldo, Messi and a host of World Cup stars with Steve McGarry in two free one-off workshops on Saturday 7 July. Click here for more information.
