Donald Bell’s Victoria Cross, 1916

On 5th July 1916 in northern France, Second Lieutenant Bell crossed no man's land to destroy an enemy machine gun. The former Bradford Park Avenue player became the only professional English footballer to be awarded the VC for his bravery, but was killed five days later.
