Stuart Roy Clarke’s Homes of Football: Up The Most Beautiful Day, 1992
I entitled it such because this was a team going under at home to their biggest adversaries, but also with the changes to football the old-styled derby days were coming to an end. There is a majesty about the view: a good deal of the ground, the houses backed up beyond - and even the North Sea! We are reminded that we are an island race and there is nothing we like doing more than huddling together in the cold to watch and dispute the football. The tatty UK flag flies aloft...the tv crew have their flasks at hand for half-time (they can't leave their station). Technically I got up higher than anybody...though I have competition from a Geordie fan who has left his pen to clamber the floodlight pylon.
