Football Engineering

Malik Thomas has created a series of engineering style images representing some of the myriad complex technologies underpinning Out of Play: Technology & Football.

From a cell-phone camera and telecommunications satellite (fundamental tools in enabling “The Time of the Game”) to the familiar gaming joypad and less easily identified mechanisms from inside energy generating footballs and a robot limb Malik applies his distinct and precise illustrative style combining ornamentation and technical drawing.

A graduate of Liverpool John Moores University, Malik first came to the attention of National Football Museum in 2014 when he created a highly distinguished portrait of Walter Tull as part of a student project, and this led to his project as resident artist during “The Greater Game”.
