Gearing up for the Women’s World Cup this half term

Warm up for the Women’s World Cup this half term with a range of trails, talks and activities centred around the women’s game.

Every day next week, create your own WWC-themed masterpieces in our Stan Chow’s Score Draw sessions. Be inspired by the Manchester artist’s incredibly popular work – including his take on England Women legend Hope Powell – and create your very own Lionesses portraits to take home with you.

Learn more about the fascinating history of the Women’s World Cup in one of our twenty-minute Football Shorts talks, held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Follow our interpreters on a journey through the tournament’s potted history, featuring the memorable games, new objects on our galleries and a look ahead to the upcoming action in France. Find out this and much more in the Pitch Gallery from 2pm.

This summer, we want younger visitors to embark on a journey of their own, discovering even more about the Women’s World Cup across our galleries with our dedicated trail quiz. Track down the objects from each tournament, and use your answers to uncover the secret mystery word. Bring your completed trail to the museum gift shop and claim a special prize! Keep hold of your booklet and follow the progress of every team throughout the summer with our portable WWC ‘wallchart’.

Throughout half term, visitors can also try their hand at ‘painting’ their favourite players, shirts and balls in our Football Is Art VR challenges. Get inspired by Rosie Summers’ incredible Future Goals artwork, following a young girl’s journey from playground to the world stage, and see if you can create your own masterpiece using cutting-edge Google Tilt Brush technology.
