Get creative on and off the pitch this October

9 October 2019

Tap into your creative flair on and off the pitch this half term at the National Football Museum this October half term.

It's your last chance to see our Football Is Art and Roy of the Rovers exhibitions, but there's still time to get involved before the final whistle in November.

If you fancy seeing your artwork hanging on the walls of the museum, our final Football Is Art workshop is for you. Drawing inspiration from our Score Gallery exhibition, design your very own masterpiece that will go on display in the same space as Rose Wylie, Pablo Picasso and Banksy! In this unique drop-in workshop, we will show you how to recreate techniques used by top artists so you can master amazing portraits of your footballing icon.

You also have one more chance to try your hand at our Football Is Art Tilt Brush challenges. Strap on the virtual reality headset and get in the game with Google's cutting-edge tech. See Rosie Summers' magnificent VR artwork Future Goals, charting a young girl's journey from the playground to the international stage, and have a go yourself. Can you paint a ball, a shirt or a player in just ten minutes?

You can become the hero of your own story with our Roy of the Rovers comic book workshop. Add your own dramatic plot, fill in the blank panels with your own drawings, and make sure you're the star on the front cover with our unique sticker-printing technology. There's also the opportunity to trace Roy Race and his sister Rocky into various scenes, from the playground to Wembley Stadium, at our unique Roy of the Rovers Illustration Station.

The museum will also be celebrating Black History Month with two talks on the story of Walter Tull, a pioneering footballer for Spurs and Northampton Town who became the British Army's first mixed-heritage officer. Learn more about Tull’s remarkable life, how he overcame hardship and prejudice to lead on both the football pitch and battlefield. Alongside this 20-minute story, visitors can learn more with our unique handling collection!

And, as always, there's plenty of scope to show off your creativity in the Play Gallery. Try out a range of tricks and games in fun interactives, sharpening your skills throughout half term and beyond!

You can find the full October half term fixture list over on our What's On page.
