#HiddenHistory of women’s football at Sporting Heritage conference

Belinda Monkhouse, Collections Officer at The National Football Museum, will be a key speaker at the Sporting Heritage, Photography and TV Conference at the end of November.

Using photographs from an unseen collection, her presentation will give an overview of the history of the photography of women’s football from the late nineteenth century onwards, as well as discussing the conservation and access of these collections.

Using Liz Deighan as a case study, Belinda will be discussing how the museum aims to unlock the hidden histories within women’s football and put these at the centre of the museum’s interpretation.

The Sporting Heritage, Photography and TV Conference will be held at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 November. See some of the country’s leading academics come together as they look at:

    •       Curatorial areas - with different individual, businesses and institutions leading on different subjects

    •       Raising awareness - Sharing collections - through loans and transfers

    •       Wider issues of education, economy and regeneration

Attendees will be able to explore the exhibition, display and outputs of the sporting past as captured through photography and broadcast TV. There will also be a number of workshops available.
