Gary Davies’ induction into the Hall of Fame is a recognition for over 20 years of involvement in football as both a player and a coach. Born with acute cerebral palsy, Davies has played 85 times for the England Cerebral Palsy team and was captain of the side between 2005 and 2007. He has represented England across the world including in Brazil, Argentina, the USA and the Netherlands.

Davies made his England debut in the 2001 World Games in Nottingham versus Brazil, wearing the number 16 shirt.

Across six years Davies amassed 85 appearances, scoring seven goals. Perhaps his most memorable goal was scored in the 2006 European Championships, in a play-off match against Spain in Dublin. Davies scored the winner from a free kick with just seconds left on the clock. This game was particularly special to Gary as it was the only time his parents saw him play.

Whilst working full-time for the Home Office, Davies has devoted his spare time to coaching. Whilst with the Durham County Football Association, Davies completed his UEFA B Coaching Licence. He now coaches at Scunthorpe United’s Academy, and is continuing his playing career with a veterans over 40s team.

On his recent successes Gary has said, ‘“It was a very humbling moment as I never thought they’d recognise me and I’m very grateful for both my induction and for getting the position I’ve managed to attain at Scunthorpe United Football Club.”
