FWF 2022: Expected Goals Calendar

Winning games, leagues and trophies is not just about vague unquantifiable traits: passion, desire, "who wants it more". In the modern world, the game is increasingly becoming about angles, percentages and patterns of play.

Renowned journalist and writer Rory Smith has explored the rise of data in the football industry in his latest work, Expected Goals: The Story of How Data Conquered Football and Changed the Game Forever.

Rory will be exploring the points raised in his new book with an expert panel of data analysts and boardroom executives who have harnessed that information and used it to deliver success on the pitch.

Stockport County Director of Football Simon Wilson will be one of those guests. Simon the Premier League's second full-time data analyst when he joined Southampton, later taking up roles at Manchester City, Sunderland and Leicester City.

BBC Sport's Miriam Walker-Khan will be chairing discussions on the night.
