Out Of Play: Technology & Football Calendar

19 June 2015 - 19 July 2015
Open daily

A new programme of displays, events and installations at the National Football Museums looks at the ever-changing relationship between football and technology. Off the pitch, tech is changing how we watch and interact with the beautiful game. Tech inspires responses to the game that are creative, funny, or potentially life-changing.

New items on display include energy-generating footballs, match-ready robots, and injury-inflicting shinpads for gamers!

From June 19, a world premiere immersive artwork, The Time Of The Game, by Canadian artist Jer Thorp, writer Teju Cole, and developer Mario Klingemann uses images uploaded to Twitter to present a synchronised global view of the World Cup final.

A UK premiere of We Tripped El Hadji Diouf, a collection of hacked gifs curated by Jason Eppink, showcases how a creative community can reinterpret even a short clip of a game online.

A series of artist residencies will see GPS tracking meet a medieval game, a robot lawnmower develop an online persona, and female footballers hacked into video games.
