Create the Space: The Underrepresentation of Women in Football Calendar

8 March 2021 - 8 March 2021
12 - 1pm

Create the Space - Kick It Out event

Football is one of the most popular (and lucrative) sports in the world, creating a vast amount of roles and opportunities for people on and off the pitch. So why do women often find themselves consigned to the sidelines?

On International Women's Day (Monday 8 March), we are co-hosting a unique online event with Kick It Out, providing a platform for individuals to share and discuss solutions to underrepresentation in the football industry. Join us on Crowdcast from 12pm as our esteemed panels discuss lived experiences and challenges within the football industry.

The first talk, Looking Back, will be hosted by Kick It Out's Raise Your Game Co-ordinator Crystal Davis, and features reflections from Leicester City Women captain Holly Morgan and the museum's Curator of Women's Football, Belinda Scarlett.

Our second talk, The Present, gets underway at 12:40pm. Kick It Out game changers Zuleikha Chikh and Maria-Jose Ramos, freelance journalist Renuka Odedra and the museum's own Jessica Furness will be looking at the current state of play for women in the industry.

Speaking ahead of the event, Kick It Out's Crystal Davis said: “We are looking forward to working together to deliver an event which will generate meaningful discussions, and allow young people to share their own experiences. We want to have an open discussion about identifying solutions, which could hopefully open up more opportunities for young people across the football industry.”

This Kick It Out panel discussion will take place on Crowdcast. Register now for notifications and updates ahead of kick-off:
