Back To School with Manchester Football Writing Festival Calendar

3 September 2016 - 3 September 2016
11am - 4pm

The football season is back: YES! The summer holidays are almost over: NO! Make sure your family squeezes the very most out of the holiday with a football-themed last hurrah at the National Football Museum. It might even get the kids back in the mood for a bit of learning…

For the first time the Manchester Football Writing Festival is hosting a day of family-themed events. We’re showing Football Shorts (short films, not just shorts) from around the world. These family-friendly films are funny, sad, and fantastic. They all show how children around the world love the beautiful game, even when it gets a little ugly. The films have been chosen by our friends from the 11mm film festival in Berlin. There are 5 films in the programme, lasting a total of 45 mins approx. Mostly suitable for ages 6+, you can come and go during the screening if any of your team get fidgety. Some have subtitles, some don’t need them! The programme will be repeated at 11am, 1pm & 3pm.

FootballSchoolThen we’ll welcome you to Football School - the school where every lesson is about football! Football School is a groundbreaking new book that teaches you about the world through the lens of football. Imagine learning about history, geography, maths, biology and music with only football on the curriculum - it’s every kids’ dream!

Football School author Ben Lyttleton will coach you through your first lesson. You will learn:

Can you play football on Mars?
Why do eagles make the best mascots?
When do footballers poo?
And what have pink elephants got to do with penalty-kicks?

There will also be a chance to take Football School’s Penalty Shoot-Out challenge.

This is the perfect summer holiday treat for any football-mad kid: Football School is the book about the school of their dreams!
