How to get here
We're right in the centre of Manchester and very easy to get to by public transport. Or, if you fancy getting here on foot or by bike check the map above or visit Transport for Greater Manchester's online map of cycle lanes and parking here, or check details of the nearest cycle hub.
We're right next to Victoria Station. If leaving Victoria Station from the main entrance, cross over the road and you'll see our large glass building directly in front of you. Head up into Cathedral Gardens and you'll see the main entrance on your left.
There will be no Northern Rail trains serving Manchester Victoria after the last service on Christmas Eve until Thursday 2 January 2014 when services resume. Customers are being advised to check travel details thoroughly when booking tickets and before they travel.
Northern Rail services to Liverpool, Preston, Blackpool, Wigan, Southport and Blackburn will start/terminate at Manchester Oxford Road or Salford Central
· A shuttle bus will run between Salford Central – Manchester Victoria
· A limited train service will operate to Moston, serving Castleton and Mills Hill
· Services to/from Rochdale, Bradford and Leeds via Hebden Bridge will start/terminate at Rochdale with a rail replacement bus service to Manchester Victoria
Northern Rail services to/from Huddersfield via Stalybridge will start/terminate at Ashton-under-Lyne
· Buses will run between Manchester Victoria and Ashton-under-Lyne
· Additional TransPennine Express services will stop at Stalybridge providing more trains into Manchester Piccadilly
Metrolink services will continue to operate as normal from Manchester Victoria, and additional double trams will be running on the new Ashton line over the Christmas period while the improvements are delivered and the accompanying changes to Northern service are in place.
There is a bus stop (code NJ) right outside the museum on Corporation St served by many different routes. The free city centre Metroshuttle service number 2 stops at the museum and links directly to Deansgate and Oxford Rd train stations as well as other Metroshuttle services.

The nearest metrolink tram stop is at Victoria station. Catch the Bury to Piccadilly or Bury to Altrincham service. www.tfgm.com
Manchester is ringed by the M60, linking to the UK's extensive motorway network. At the moment the brown signs still say Urbis, so follow these to the city centre. From the airport
There is a regular train service from Manchester Airport to Manchester Piccadilly, from where the museum is approximately a 15 minute walk, or you can change to the Metrolink Bury service and alight at Victoria.
Directions to / from Manchester United FC
We are approximately a 20 minute drive from Old Trafford. Old Trafford is linked to the city centre, and the museum, by the Metrolink tram system. From MUFC, catch the Piccadilly tram at Old Trafford or Exchange Quay, change to the Bury service at Piccadilly Gardens for Victoria. Alternatively catch the Bury tram directly from Old Trafford tram stop and get off at Victoria.
Directions from Manchester City FC
We are approximately a 10 minute drive from the Etihad Stadium. There is a sign-posted walking route to the stadium from Manchester Piccadilly Station, which takes around 20 minutes.The following bus routes link the stadium with the city centre: 53, 54, 185, 186, 216, 217, 230, 231, 232, 233, 234, 235, 236, 237, X36 and X37. A new Metrolink service to the stadium is also now open.
